Taniefa Latoya Beharie is described as an intelligent, driven, determined young philanthropist. In addition to pursuing her studies in medicine at The University of the West Indies (UWI), she has found time to be involved in mentorship programmes in Craig Town and Miss Beharie is actively involved in student life at the Mona Campus of the UWI. Serving as the Vice-President of Alumni Programming of the Vice Chancellors Ambassador Corps, Vice-President of Internal Affairs for the class of 2013, she is also a member of the UWI Quality Leadership and several other Societies on campus. She has led two student delegations to the ‘Students engaging the CARICOM Single Market and Economy through Field Promotion programme and is a member of the Future Leaders Conference. She is the Altar Server at the Anglican Congregation of the University Chapel. Dr. Trevor Anthony Hacker has overcome many challenges to achieve the success he now enjoys. Born in Lemington, Westmoreland, he was diagnosed with poliomyelitis, which left him unable to walk until he was four years old. Over the years, he has always been seen as an ambitious and very hard worker. Although his parents could not afford to send him to high school, he completed his elementary level education and sold coconut drops and grater cakes until he had accumulated enough money for school abroad, where he studied Principles of Accounting. His first job was at the Ministry of Agriculture as an Accounting Clerk, and after 5 years, he was promoted to Senior Parish Accountant with the Rural Agricultural Development Agency (RADA). Dr. Hacker developed an interest in Dentistry and received a seven-year scholarship to study in He has not forgotten his roots and gives back to the community by serving as President of the School of Hope, and assisting with building a block of classrooms at the New Roads All- Age School with the support of JSIF. He also makes a monthly financial contribution to the Lemington Basic School, and regularly assists individuals with accessing medical services in Cuba. As an avid community service contributor, Katrina Sophia Grant is a champion for youth in the parish of Westmoreland. Born on October 4, 1982, she is the third of five children for her parents, and the only girl. She challenged herself to enter the world of business through her primary interest in Finance and Business Administration; however, she has found that she has a penchant for writing and would not rule out a career in the media. Miss Grant is a graduate of the Manning’s School and attended the Northern Caribbean University where she read for a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Miss Grant was on the honour roll and a member of the Rotaract and Drama clubs, the Debating Society and Poetry Group. Her involvement with the Rotaract Club afforded her the opportunity to explore her other passion - philanthropy. Her significant contribution to the Word of Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church and to her community has made her one of the most affable persons in her community and an invaluable asset to her parish. Miss Grant has distinguished herself as the Festival Queen for the parish of Westmoreland and also the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen for 2008. Mr. Gordon also received a full scholarship from the Westmoreland Co-operative Credit Union Limited. During his attendance at the Manning’s School, he maintained an admirable record of participation in student life. He was selected to be the school’s Head Boy and the Captain of the School’s Challenge Quiz Team, and was involved in the Science Club, Spanish Quiz Team, Spanish Club, Inter-School Christian Fellowship and the Environmental Club. Bishop Joyce Bernard has made a significant contribution to her community and the parish of Westmoreland. As the fourth of six children, born to Louise and James Bernard in Portland, she attended the Seaside Primary and the Fair Prospect Secondary Schools. While in grade eight, she took the Grade Nine Achievement Test and was awarded a place at the Happy Grove High School. She overcame several challenges with the help of many positive mentors, and received passes in five GCE subjects. Having attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Jamaica Bible College, a Certificate in Social Work from The University of the West Indies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Guidance and Counselling from the International University of the Caribbean, her love for helping others blossomed. Her interest in working with young people influenced her to serve on the Board for the Godfrey Stewart High and Savanna-La-Mar Infant Schools. She also served as the Chairman of the Red Cross Westmoreland Branch, Chairman of the Full Gospel Westmoreland Chapter, and is a 4H Club Executive Member. She is also the founder of the CENTEC Early Childhood Institute in New Market. Bishop Bernard has been actively involved with the Deliverance Evangelistic Association, with the distinction of being first female ordained Minister. Her voluntary service to the parish of Westmoreland led to her being awarded the Custos’ Award as Parish Volunteer. Caswell Alexander Dawes is a role model for many youngsters who experience a sense of hopelessness as a result of scarce resources. His life exemplifies how ambition, integrity, determination and goodwill can transform one’s life and, in the process, touch the lives of others. Guided by the philosophy that “In order to receive, one must give” and despite many odds, Caswell has become an outstanding person and citizen. He is committed to spreading good in all he does; helping his neighbours, the young, sick and needy. Former Treasurer of the Born on the first of June, 1965 in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland, Caswell is the seventh of ten siblings, who learned the importance of hard work, resilience and cooperation from his parents, Leonard Dawes and Esmeralda Taylor-Dawes.
