Charlene Jackson, a graduate of the University of Technology, with a BSc. in Food Service Management, is known for her excellent oral and written communication skills; and her organized approach to carrying out projects effectively.

Born in St. James, she grew up in the parish of Manchester, where she attended the Mandeville Primary and Junior High Schools; as well as the Manchester High School where she attained eight subjects in CXC; and moved on to the University of Technology.

Miss Jackson made a significant contribution to the overall life of the student body at Manchester High School, through her synergistic involvement in extra circular activities, including—being a Prefect from 1999-2002; a member of the Girl Guide Association; Member of the 4-H Club; member of the Tourism Action Club; member of the Year Book Committee; member of the Girls Brigade Jamaica, 1995-2006; and was selected Brigadier of the Year in 2002.

She continued her involvement in building of social capital through her participation in numerous activities at the University of Technology. Some of these activities included: being a Service member of the Circle K; and her participation in the Cultural and Entertainment Committee for the Halls of Residence. She was also a Youth Representative for the CAANAC World Assembly in Trinidad & Tobago in 2007.

Since 2008 she has been employed as the Banqueting Manager at the Mandeville Place-Neils Auditorium. Motivated by her experiences and entrepreneurial spirit, Charlene plans to own and operate a full service hospitality facility, catering to functions. 

Charlene has also been the Associate Advisor on Cultural and Social Affairs at the Andrew United church; and believes that, “the toughest task is doable!”

Nikita Henry is currently a part-time teacher at Bishop Gibson High School, and plans to pursue a career in teaching, and has stated her intention to attend university to attain a Bachelors degree in Chemistry and Education.

After attending Bishop Gibson High School from 1999 to 2003; she went on to St. Hugh’s High School, 2003-2005 where she attained eight GCE and GCE O Level subjects, respectively. A graduate of Church Teachers’ College, Miss Henry pursued a teaching course in Double Option Science, studying Biology and Chemistry as a major; and Physics as a minor. During her high school years, she was President of the Planeteers Club; Secretary of the French and 4-H Clubs; and a member of the Debating Society, as well as the School’s Challenge Quiz Team.

As a Peer Educator, Nikita was instrumental in developing a fundraiser to allocate funds to assist children living with HIV. She participated in marches held on Worlds AIDS Day, in 2006 and 2007. As Vice President of the Manchester and Upper Trelawny Area Council, she coordinated meetings for the Anglican Church and the Anglican Youth Fellowship.

In the wider community, she has been engaged in a wide range of voluntary services, working with the Manchester Infirmary, the Elizabeth’s Nursing Home, the Windsor Children’s Home and the Bustamante Hospital for Children, in Kingston.

Miss Henry always reaches out to others, volunteering to teach science to primary school students while mentoring others in her work through Rotaract Club; as well as her participation in the St. Mark’s Anglican Fraternity and Choir.

Jeromha Crossbourne, a Partner at Scott, Bhoorasingh & Bonnick, has been an Attorney-at-Law at the Jamaican Bar for more than five years, specialising in criminal and civil litigation. A motivated and goal oriented person, she has contributed her legal and motivational skills to assist others.

Ms Crossbourne was educated at the Norman Manley Law School at The University of the West Indies, Mona; and at the UWI Cave Hill.  He holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree, Upper Second Class Division; and a Legal Education Certificate.

Awards & Achievements: Ms Crossbourne is an Honour Roll Graduate; has been the recipient of several awards including—The Douglas Fletcher Memorial Prize: for the outstanding Jamaican in academic achievement, interest in the Law School, discipline and attitude to society; Williams, McKoy and Palmer Prize: for outstanding performance in Criminal Practice and Procedure; Vaccianna & Wittingham Prize: for Criminal Practice and Procedure; and the Hon. Mr. Justice Courtenay Scipio Orr Memorial Prize: for outstanding Criminal Practice and Procedure.

Activities and Organisations: National Initiative for Street Children: presented in recognition of hosting motivational talks for the children.

She is a member of the Jamaican Bar Association; the Southern Bar Association; Honourary Secretary of the Girls Guides Association; and a Sunday School Teacher at the United Church of Jamaica. She is also a member of the Glenmuir Preparatory Past Students Association; and participated in the Glenmuir High School’s Past Student Mentorship Programme.

In her community, Ms Crossbourne is the Treasurer of the Volunteer Corps, and contributes some eight hours per week at a Children’s Home. She is also Treasurer for the Human Rights Committee

Jeromha Crossbourne, it is with pride and confidence that the members of the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards Committee of Clarendon have selected you as a worthy recipient of the Governor-General’s Award for Excellence for 2010.

Jeremy Hall, a self-taught musician, has established an “unblemished record of outstanding achievement, intelligence and scholarship,” during his attendance at Glenmuir High School; and his guiding philosophy is: “Taking the challenge; raising the bar of excellence.”

Described as a talented, outspoken, spiritual, jovial and creative young man, he plans to pursue a career in the field of Science and Technology, starting with a BSc. in Electronics Engineering at The University of the West Indies.

In 2009 he was the top student in Computer Science Unit 1 at Glenmuir High; and that same year he created and engineered an original programming language, Hallocode, using the language “C” to code the syntax.

Jeremy Hall established one of the highest academic records at Glenmuir High School, having placed first in Stream in the 4^th and 5^th Forms and 6B. He received 12 distinctions in the CSEC, gaining eleven distinctions in one sitting; 16 distinctions, and one credit in CXC Subjects; as well as four distinctions and one credit in CAPE. In addition, he received the JPASS Award for third place in the island for CSEC results in 2008, as the top male performer.

Jeremy has been playing the keyboard, bass guitar and drums professionally since the age of nine, and has won numerous awards including gold, silver and bronze, as well as trophies in the Festival of the Arts of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission. He was Choir Chaplain and Bass line leader; and the lead Bass in Glenmuir’s Choir Album, “Spirit on Fire: The Burning Truth,” as well as the lead musician in the Jamaica Association of General Baptists.

A Prefect and Deputy Head Boy at Glenmuir High School, Jeremy also served as President of Computer Science and Technology Club; a Student Council Representative; a Mentor for the Sixth Form Association Mentorship Programme; and he participated in the Quiz Club, Science Club, Technology Club and Chess Club; as well as playing on the Under 13 football team.

Overall, Jeremy’s brilliance and commitment to work has been impressive; and his keen sense of hunour has endeared him to his peers.

Jason Lamar McNeish, a former Head Boy of St. Jago High School, left an indelible mark on his peers and teachers, given his discipline, decorum, humility and integrity. He is the holder of seven CXC subjects, five CAPE subjects, and a BSc. in Tourism Management.

At St. Jago High School, Jason was President of the Tourism Action Club; Chairman of the Magazine Committee; President of Y-Teen; Chairman of the Ball and Dinner Committee and the Mr. and Mrs. St. Jago Competition.

He matriculated at The University of the West Indies, where he studied Tourism Management, pursuing courses in—Eco-Tourism, Sustainable Tourism, Polices and Planning, and Marketing.

At the UWI he was Vice-President of the UWI Guild, 2010; President of the UWI Tourism Society 2008-2009; Publications Committee  Chairperson, Guild of Students, 2008-2009; Choir Member, Chancellor Hall, 2009-2010; and the conceptualiser of the Guild’s Entrepreneurship Competition.

Despite a tight study schedule, Jason also worked in his community as President and co-founder of the Eltham Acres Police Youth Club, 2006. He organised youth camps, sought sponsorship for classes and motivated members. He was also President and Team leader of the Jamaica Hurdles Crew.

Jason has worked with a number of corporate entities including Air Jamaica, the Jamaica National Building Society and the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. He maintains an abiding interest in tourism, given its mix of sectors such as—transportation, agriculture and culture.

His ultimate dream is to manage his own company, to give back to society by creating employment, to contribute to his country and be able to sponsor outreach programmes.

Sheldon James White plans to be a Computer Programme Developer and Website Designer because “the world is fast becoming a seamless, global village in this computer dominated age.”

Sheldon is currently a Personnel Banking Officer at the Bank of Nova Scotia, where he has been employed since 1999; and he has worked in several capacities, including: Relief Personnel Banking Assistant and Teller Supervisor; Sub-Treasury Teller, 2003-2009; Teller, 1999-2003; and Current Account Filing Clerk, 1999. At BNS he has worked at the Scotia Bank Centre, as well as several branches, including Cross Roads, King Street, Premier and New Kingston.

Sheldon White is a graduate of the University of Technology, with a BSc. in Computing and Management Studies, 2009. His other educational achievements include a Certificate of completion from Jamaica College, 1992-1998; and several GCE and CXC subjects.

An active member of the New Testament Church of God, in Braeton, Mr. White has served as a Deacon for more than seven years. He is President of the Men’s Fellowship, Assistant Sports Director; Choir Director; Member of the Finance Committee; Leader for Hospitality; Coordinator of the Technology Department; Sunday School Teacher; Church PRO; and Youth Fellowship Liaison Officer.

He was a volunteer for the World Cup Cricket held in the Caribbean; and an International Cricket Council volunteer at cricket matches at Sabina Park. He also participates in his Citizens’ Association; and is a regular donor to the Blood Bank.

His personal ambitions include bridging the gap between adults and young people; influencing his peers to be role models for young people; and using computer technology to make the lives of others easier.

Miss Veronique Juanita Lawrence, a motivator, is recognised for her leadership qualities and being an excellent team player. An innovator, she has spearheaded school garden projects, established a literacy and numeracy resource room at Job’s Hill All-Age School; upgraded the school library, improved the school’s lunch programme; and improved the student literacy rate to one which exceeds the national average.

Working closely with the Parent Teachers’ Association and the Citizens’ Association she has influenced her community to become involved with activities at the school; and as a result the Job’s Hill All-Age School continues to benefit from this partnership.

Miss Lawrence attended Marymount High School; and subsequently achieved a Diploma in Primary Education at the College of Agriculture, Science & Education (CASE) in 1997. She also pursued tertiary studies at the University of Technology (UTECH) and was awarded the BSc in Food Production and Management in 2007.

At Marymount she was a member of the Red Cross Club, the Debating Society; and was a Prefect. While at CASE she was Secretary of the Student Council, and actively participated in sports, such as netball and volley ball.

Her work in the educational sector has mainly been at Job’s Hill All-Age School, where she was first a Senior Teacher; and is currently the Acting Principal. she has also served at Beecham Hill Primary School where she was introduced to 4-H Club activities, and subsequently established a club at Job’s Hill All-Age School.

In the wider community she has served as a mentor, a Sunday School Teacher; Secretary of the Women’s Mission Department at Highgate United Pentecostal Church; Presiding Officer in General and Parish Council Elections; and Secretary of the St. Mary Cricket Association.

She believes in working hard to achieve the best life has to offer. And, she maintains that, “If you are patient enough, people will surprise you with their very best side.”

Veronique Juanita Lawrence, it is with pride and confidence that the members of the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards Committee of St. Mary have selected you as a worthy recipient of the Governor-General’s Award for Excellence for 2010.

Rahman Bishen Surgbally is currently studying to become a pilot; and on the completion of his studies he plans to either join the Jamaica Defence Force, to study aviation; or to attend the Caribbean Maritime Institute to study navigation.

Rahman, who was born in Annotto Bay, St. Mary, was educated at Marlborough Primary School; and St. Mary High School. On graduation, in 2007 with seven CSEC subjects, he proceeded to pursue his pre-university level education and training to become a pilot.

In 2003, while in Grade 8, he enlisted in the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force. As a recruit he struggled with military drills and discipline; but developed, and was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal, with responsibility for the care and welfare of eleven cadets in the Unit. One year later, he attained the rank of Corporal, and additional duties; and subsequently assumed the position of Company Sergeant Major, with responsibility for the operations and management of the St. Mary High School Cadet Unit.

Rahman was also appointed a Prefect at St. Mary High School, where he used his Cadet training to work with fellow students.

During his seven years as a Cadet, the work of the corps became an integral part of his life, as he learned about leadership styles. He also participated in Cadet Projects at the Swift Percel Boys Home, Stockholm Park Basic School, the Holland, Buff Bay, Dinthill High and St. Mary High Schools. His diligence led to earning certificates in administration, basic air training, as well as rescue and shelter management.

Rahman Bishen Surgbally, it is with pride and confidence that the members of the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards Committee of St. Mary have selected you as a worthy recipient of the Governor-General’s Youth Award for Excellence for 2010.

Mr. Rohan Champagnie strives to assist others to grow intellectually; and has organised clubs and spiritual ministries to enhance the lives of others. His own life was stimulated by persons such as Steve Rodney, a friend, who taught him to read. Mrs. Lorna Standford one of his teachers at Tackey High School, became his mentor, and guided his educational path.

After graduation from Tackey High School in 1996, Rohan matriculated at the University of Technology, where he achieved a Diploma in Technical Teacher Education in 2000; and a Bachelor of Arts Degree with First Class Honours in Education, in 2005.

His teaching career includes working at the Ocho Rios High School; and as a part-time lecturer at the Jamaican Institute of Management.  The philosophy that has guided his development is that, “Success is not a talent, but an attitude.”

A baptized member and ordained Elder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Mr. Champagnie serves as a lay preacher, Sabbath school teacher and youth leader; and he also provides assistance to the host pastor in the supervision of various departments, as well as to conduct church services.

He is an active participant in outreach programmes, and was instrumental in establishing a Clinic Ministry at the Gayle Health Centre, where he holds weekly devotions with patients on Wednesdays. At Tacky High School, he leads devotions for both senior and junior students.

A cricketer, he was a valuable member of the Inter-Department Cricket Team; and an active participant in the 4-H Club. On a regular basis, he also visits the Port Maria Infirmary and the Richmond Adult Prison; and participates in the annual treats at these institutions.

Miss Tabitha Williamson, was trained as an Early Childhood Educator, and is highly regarded by her peers for her motivating abilities, which bring out the best in children, and gives focus to her own belief that, “everyone is born for a purpose.”

Tabitha, who was born in St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann, is a graduate of Shortwood Teacher’s College, where she received a Diploma, in 2009. She previously attended Ardenne High School achieving seven subjects in the General Certificate of Education (CX), including Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, Principles of Business and Social Studies, in 2005. She also holds a Certificate of Academic Activities from Ferncourt High School.

During those formative years in high school, she was an active participant in the Speech & Drama Club at Ferncourt High School; a member of the Spanish Club at both Ardenne and Ferncourt High; and a member of the female football team.

She worked as a Craft Teacher at Elim basic School in 2009; and as a Clerical Assistant at National Meats & Food Distributors in 2009. Under the National Youth Service Programme in August 2006, she served as a Clerical Assistant at the Ocho Rios Police Station; and she also taught at Golden Grove Basic School, in 2005.

A faithful member of the Golden Grove Gospel Chapel, she participates in the Young Persons Youth Group, and teaches Vocation Bible School. For four years she was also active in the Home Work Programme.

Tabitha Williamson, it is with pride and confidence that the members of the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards Committee of St. Ann have selected you as a worthy recipient of the Governor-General’s Youth Award for Excellence for 2010.

Everton Wesley Anderson has an unending concern for the safety of public health and believes it must be delivered at the highest quality, even if resources are limited.  He has dedicated more than a decade of his adult life to a career in the Public Health service, rising steadily to the position of Chief Executive Officer of one of the island’s busiest and largest health facilities, the Cornwall Regional Hospital. 

Mr. Anderson is seen as a visionary in the field of healthcare especially in the western region.  Under his leadership, the Cornwall Regional Hospital has been able to realize the construction of a new wing for the Cardiology and Intensive Care Units, a new Chemotherapy suite, and an Intransit Unit in the Accident and Emergency Department.  Several other upgrades to the physical structure of the hospital have also been achieved under his stewardship.  He was also instrumental in the introduction of Neuro-surgery to the western region. 

He is highly regarded and admired by staff and patients alike for his commitment to the delivery of the best quality healthcare to the people of western Jamaica.  The high esteem with which he is held has earned him the coveted title of All-Island Boss of the Year in 2003, presented by the Jamaica Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals.

As part of his community involvement, Mr. Anderson serves on the Boards of the Springfield Basic School, Maldon High School, Cornwall College Old Boys’ Trust Limited and Herbert Morrison High School. 

Everton Wesley Anderson, it is with pride and confidence that the members of the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards Committee of St. James have selected you as a worthy recipient of the Governor-General’s Youth Award for Excellence for 2010.

Alec Ray Tomlin was born in Montego Bay, St. James.  Young Tomlin is passionate about volunteerism and despite his youth, he has provided outstanding leadership in a number of school and community organisations.  He sees himself as ‘destined to lead’ and has focused his energy on activities that would best help him to develop and sharpen those skills.

Mr. Tomlin has applied himself well in every leadership position in which he has served.  He was Head Boy and valedictorian at the Mount Alvernia Preparatory School. At age 14, he was the youngest President of the Cornwall College tennis team and captained the team from 2007-2008.  He was Class Monitor from Grades 7 to 11 at Cornwall College, and President of the Student Council for the 2009 academic year.   He also served as Student Council President at the Montego Bay Community College.

His academic and co-curricular achievements include the 2003 GSAT Government Scholarship Award, winner of the Vivian Rochester National Math Competition, four-time silver medalist in the JCDC speech finals, successful completion of 10 CSEC subjects at Cornwall College, and the Rotary Award for Leadership. 

Mr. Tomlin currently tutors students in Accounting at his alma mater and is Editor-in-Chief/Staff Writer of “The Zone,” a youth-oriented publication launched in 2010.  He also does volunteer work at the Blessed Assurance Children’s Home for children with disabilities and conducts badminton clinics in his community, against the background that sports is a catalyst for community unity, peace and development.

His ambition is to lead by example and he looks forward to a successful career in Business. He is currently pursuing studies in Business at the Montego Bay Community College.

Roger Marvin Bent is from Top Hill in the parish of St. Elizabeth.  He was educated at Munro College, Bethlehem Moravian College and The University of the West Indies (Mona), where he is completing a Master of Arts Degree in Student Personnel Administration.

During his active undergraduate years at The UWI, Mr. Bent served in several key leadership positions including External Affairs Chairman for Chancellor Hall and the Guild of Students; as well as Vice- President of the Guild, and Guild President from 2008 to 2009.  Commuting Student Advisor and Assistant Coordinator of the UWI Debating Society are also areas in which he served as a post-graduate student.

The impact of his student involvement and activism extended beyond the university campus, as he was instrumental in initiating several student-based outreach programmes, which benefited residents in communities of Wildman Street, Mountain View and Windward Road, in the Corporate Area.

The Wildman Street Educational Programme, Peace Management Initiative and Help Our People Excel programmes in which Mr. Bent was involved, inspired and motivated residents in the respective communities to be the architects of their own destinies.  Young people and adults from these communities were prepared for the CXC examinations, free of cost, by students of The UWI. 

Mr. Bent was also involved in the Roots to Haiti Regionalism and Academic Exchange Programme, which was designed to bridge the gap and increase understanding between Jamaican and Haitian universities.  He is an assistant Pastor at the Bethel Apostolic Church in Southfield, St. Elizabeth where he continues to promote the empowerment of young people and adults.

Mr. Roger Bent, it is with pride and confidence that the members of the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards Committee of St. Elizabeth have selected you as a worthy recipient of the Governor-General’s Youth Award for Excellence for 2010.

Janell Wright has lived her life by the mantra that “a young girl from humble beginnings can be whatever she wants to be.”  This is reflected in her many academic achievements and social involvement through community service.

Born in Black River St. Elizabeth in 1990, Miss Wright grew up in Spice Grove District in the parish.  She attended the St. Elizabeth Technical and Black River High Schools, and graduated with distinctions in the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) external examinations.

A goal-oriented and dynamic student leader, she has served as Prefect, Student Council representative and Head Girl at Black River High School. In the broader community, she has worked with the Parottee Citizens’ Association on the Community Beautification Programme, and the Newspaper Recycle Programme. Her colleagues have also benefitted from her language skills while she served as a writer for the Jamaica Observer Teenage paper.  A talented musician, she has also served as Director of the Parottee Seventh-day Adventist Youth Choir.

She was awarded a five-year scholarship from the South Florida Chapter of the St. Elizabeth Technical High School Alumni  for her outstanding academic performance from Grade 7 through to Grade 11.  After sixth form, she received a scholarship from the Mount Holyoke College in the United States of America where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry and English. At Holyoke College, she has served as Student Assistant to the Dean of Students’ Affairs.

Miss Wright has participated in the National Youth Parliament Debate; and was rated most outstanding Public Speaker for the parish of St. Elizabeth by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission. In addition, she holds the enviable position of having been selected to represent Black River High School in the speech and drama category at the World Championships of the Performing Arts in Hollywood, California.

She is unequivocally a hardworking, dedicated, intelligent, focused and organised individual who with confidence, has achieved much, and is undoubtedly a role model for other young people.

Excellence for 2010.

Merritt Lloyd O’Brian Dunwell was born in Hanover in 1987 and raised in the community of Sandy Bay. 

Mr. Dunwell, described by his peers and mentors as a results-oriented individual, is driven to excellence by a love for computers, challenges and change.

This, together with his passion for academic excellence, motivated him to successfully complete a course of study in Computer Upgrade and Repairs. All this was done while simultaneously preparing for the CXC examinations in eight subjects, including Information Technology, Technical Drawing and Electronics.

At Rusea’s, he was a member of the Cadet Core and participated in the music programme.  After leaving Rusea’s High School at age 15, he received a scholarship and enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science programme at the Northern Caribbean University (NCU), a feat only few others had achieved before him.   He graduated at age 19.

While at NCU, Mr. Dunwell was a member of the 2007 Microsoft Imagine Cup Team.  The team made it to the semi-final round of the competition in the Interface Design Category.

A member of the Fletcher’s Grove Baptist Church since 1998, he served in the youth fellowship and assisted high school students in the community with their School Based Assessment coursework.  His enrollment as a student at the Okanagan College in Canada has allowed him to continue his community service at the Kelowna (Salvation Army) Community Church.

Taniefa Latoya Beharie is described as an intelligent, driven, determined young philanthropist.  In addition to pursuing her studies in medicine at The University of the West Indies (UWI), she has found time to be involved in mentorship programmes in Craig Town and Hope Valley. She also makes monthly visits to the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre.  She is a consistent lobbyist for the expansion of HIV/AIDS awareness among youth.

Miss Beharie is actively involved in student life at the Mona Campus of the UWI. Serving as the Vice-President of Alumni Programming of the Vice Chancellors Ambassador Corps, Vice-President of Internal Affairs for the class of 2013, she is also a member of the UWI Quality Leadership and several other Societies on campus.  She has led two student delegations to the ‘Students engaging the CARICOM Single Market and Economy through Field Promotion programme and is a member of the Future Leaders Conference.  She is the Altar Server at the Anglican Congregation of the University Chapel.

Miss Beharie is a graduate of the Savanna-la-Mar Primary and Mannings High Schools. She has a passion for medicine and desires to make a contribution to improving and impacting health and wellness in Jamaica. A second year medical student, her primary goal is to become a Cardiologist.

Shadee Talitha Simpson hails from Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, and dreams of becoming one of Jamaica’s leading Paediatric Neurosurgeons.  Her motivation is driven by her love for children and a diagnosis on her younger sister of a rare genetic disorder.

In preparation for a career in medicine, Ms Simpson is now pursuing a Bachelor of Surgery Degree at The University of the West Indies.   Her academic achievements include nine CXC and ten CAPE subjects, which she passed with distinctions and credits while attending Mannings High School.   She is the winner of the Bank of Nova Scotia Scholarship.

Ms Simpson is described as conscientious, well-rounded, community-oriented and ambitious.  She does volunteer work at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, and is a part of a group that brings Christmas cheer annually to the children on the Paediatric Ward at the Savanna-la-Mar hospital.  Her other community involvement includes mentoring students at the Sir Clifford Campbell Primary School, Junior Medical Officer for the parish of Westmoreland, Junior Parish Council and membership of the Leo Club. The latter with whom she volunteers to build homes for the indigent.

Calvin Alteman Hall was born in St Ann and from very early, displayed a keen interest in making a difference to his country.  He has concerned himself with matters relating to community development and is a member of the Falmouth Heritage Restoration Company, and the Falmouth Missionary Church Youth Fellowship.  He is a volunteer with the elderly, and has organised special community treats for children with disabilities. His commitment to community development has earned him the Prince of Wales Foundation Award, and sponsorship to England on a special leadership training programme.

Mr. Hall was cognizant of the fact that he could make an even greater contribution to his community with the benefit of a solid education.  His academic achievements include CXC passes in Woodwork and Technical Drawing earned while a student at the Albert Town High School and Certification in Information Technology and Masonry from the HEART Trust/NTA in Falmouth, where he was named the Most Outstanding Student of his graduating class. 

After graduating from the HEART Trust/NTA programme, he joined the Falmouth Heritage Renewal training programme.  In six years, his dedication to his work and craft propelled him to become one of their leading trainers. He has taught at the local and international levels.  Mr. Hall’s work caught the attention of His Royal Highness Prince Charles who visited Falmouth in 2008.   He was invited to study at the Prince of Wales’ Building Crafts Apprentices Programme in London. He successfully completed the programme and was awarded the Hancocks Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Mr. Hall is lauded for his positive attitude, his attention to detail and his enthusiasm to learn. When he is not busy at the Falmouth Heritage Renewal, he works closely with disabled children.

Pherone Ogillive Griffiths is a son of Spring Garden, Trelawny.  His formative years were spent at the Albert Town Primary School where he was prepared for further studies at William Knibb High School, Brown’s Town Community College and the Bethlehem Teachers’ College. 

He sees life as a journey worth pursuing in the interest of self and community development.  Through his instrumentality and with the assistance of LASCO, he started a Sporting Equity Project in schools and communities in the Albert Town area.  As a student, he was a Student Counsellor, Assistant Sports Co-coordinator, and a member of the Circle K Club.  He is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Upper Trelawny, and is actively involved with the Youth Club of Rock Spring.

A member of staff of the Spring Garden Primary and Infant School, Mr. Griffiths is described as a dedicated teacher, self-motivated and reliable.  He is currently the Technology Resource Teacher for the parish of Trelawny and conducts Information Technology workshops at various schools within the parish. He also facilitates the Level One HEART Trust/NTA Data Operation training at the Spring Garden Primary and Infant School, allowing students to pursue their interest in Information Technology.

Aldeen Sharee Simmonds, whose passion is to be a Human Resource Manager and a Career and Training Development Coordinator, hopes that if she can “touch one life as I go along life’s way, then my living would not have been in vain.” And, it is her goal to train young people to be productive members of the society and an asset to their country.

A top Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) student; Aldeen was awarded the Victoria Mutual Building Society Scholarship to attend Glenmuir High School where she was Senior Prefect, Prefect Advisor, Student Council Assistant Secretary and Class Representative. She subsequently excelled in the CXC and CAPE examinations, receiving three distinctions at one level and two distinctions in the other.

For her, sports and music were balancing elements in her academic life, working relentlessly to gain three distinctions in Music theory; and two merits for Piano Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music. And, based on her table tennis skills, she was invited to train with the Jamaica National Table Tennis Team.

After Glenmuir High School, her academic experience at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) continued to be one of high achievement as an Honour Roll Student, and Secretary of the NCU Junior Church.

An active member of the Mineral Heights Baptist Church Clarendon, she was President of the Youth Fellowship, Director of the Youth Choir, Sunday School Teacher, and Junior Secretary of the Church. Dedicated to volunteering with other youths, she also served as Vice-President of the Clarendon Baptist Youth Association, and Coordinator of the Sign Language and Dance Ministries.

In recognition of her knowledge, skills and achievements, she was awarded two silver medals in the Culinary Arts Competition of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission in 2000. Upon reflection, Aldeen credits the love, care and support of her mother Altheia and her father Albert for all her successes in life.
